Gramicci started with the shorts, the pants came later. Mike Graham built them in the 70s for climbing in Yosemite: a diamond-shaped gusset in the crotch, copied from a kung-fu trouser, and a nylon belt in the waistband that you pull tight with one hand like a backpack strap.

Pigment dyed means the colour goes onto the finished shorts. That is why they already look slightly worn in, and it gets stronger the longer you wear them.
