About Carhartt WIP

Carhartt was founded in 1889 in Detroit by Hamilton Carhartt, sewing workwear for railroad workers. In 1989 the Swiss Edwin Faeh started bringing the brand to Europe; in 1994 he got the licence to design his own lines under the name Work In Progress. The workwear stayed the basis, the cuts were adapted to street and skate culture. The first WIP store opened in London in 1997, and there has been a skate team since the 90s.
