Butter Goods was founded in 2008 in Perth by childhood friends Garth Mariano and Matt Evans. Both quit their office jobs, studied graphic design and printed the first batch of tees themselves – partly because the Australian skate brands they grew up on had disappeared one after another. Music runs through everything since: hip hop, jazz and the records the samples come from. Collaborations with Madlib or Daniel Johnston are, accordingly, not a marketing move. On the side the two run the Lo-Fi store in Perth and the Cash Only distribution.
